This weekend, a cold front hit the city that forced me to break out all my winter layers and think seriously about moving to Aruba until April. Pumpkin Night

Today I’m happy to introduce Alexis, a friend I met from work this past summer. A few weeks ago she hosted a fabulous pumpkin party in Charleston along with a seriously delicious menu. Thanks so much Alexis for sharing with us!

Nothing gets me more excited than the beginning of the autumn season and the introduction of all things pumpkin! My roommate and dear friend Sophia shares this love for all things pumpkin with me, which is why we created and hosted our own official Pumpkin Night three years ago when we began living together in Charleston, S.C.

Pumpkin Night is a night dedicated to all things pumpkin – a meal where every dish has pumpkin in it! To make it extra fun and add variety we invite friends and ask that they bring a pumpkin dish. Planning and communication are key – you don’t want to end up with three pumpkin pies and no main course.

This year we held our third annual Pumpkin Night and it was definitely our best yet. The key to a successful pumpkin night is having a balance of savory and sweet items as well as complementary beverages. The savory sweet balance was a struggle in our first year — there are a plethora of sweet pumpkin dishes, but the scrumptious savory ones take some careful searching and investigation. Below is the 2012 Pumpkin Night menu with links to all of the yummy selections! Enjoy and as we say in the south, happy fall y’all :)

Appetizer:
Spicy pumpkin taco dip (I left out the beef to keep it veggie friendly and added jalapenos for extra spice! Served with baked Tostitos scoops.)
Main Courses:
Pumpkin chili – Served with shredded cheddar cheese and sour cream,
Pumpkin macaroni and cheese – By far our best savory dish yet! The pumpkin made it extra creamy and nutritious.
Desserts:
Pumpkin pie dip - Served with cinnamon sugar pita chips, instead of apple slices.
Pumpkin crumb coffee cake – Delish and even better for breakfast the next morning
Pumpkin monkey bread – A pumpkin twist on a holiday favorite!
Beverages:
Pumpkin beer – our favs are Terrapin Pumpkinfest and Blue Moon Harvest Moon Pumpkin Ale
Hard Cider – our absolute fav is Woodchuck Hard Cider, perfect to go along with pumpkin treats!

Weekend Rewind

Over the weekend, one of my closest friends and our wonderful contributor Julia tied the knot in just about the most perfect setting imaginable for a fall wedding. The weather was (finally) lovely, the bride looked stunning and the ceremony was intimate and personal. I couldn’t have imagined a better night for the newlyweds.

We took advantage the few days off Eric & I had together and spent Saturday bumming around Providence and enjoying a tasty dinner at The Red Fez. There’s really nothing like November in New England.

Congrats to Julia & Chris, thank you so much for inviting us to be a part of your day!

Happy Halloween from your resident Bride of Frankenstein and Spider Queen/Witch (??)! Not sure what look we were going for or why the black paint needed to extend from Lucy’s nose to lip, all I do know is that childhood pictures from Halloween rock. As do corgi’s in costume–couldn’t get enough of them last year, either–and the Urban Outfitters Halloween costume shop.

Hope everyone enjoys the day and for all my fellow East Coasters, hope that you’re all staying safe and dry–Sandy was a real B in NYC.

An unexpected weekend at home turned out to be filled with all kinds of Brooklyn and fall goodness–two of my most favorite things. Friday, we went to a new wine bar in the ‘hood and then to see Argo, both of which were all kinds of excellent. Saturday, we cooked a tasty breakfast and finally made it to the Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket–a great spread of seasonal, fresh veggies, flowers and tasty treats that’s open on weekends year round. Sunday morning was spent at Brooklyn Bridge Park before an afternoon of football. We hit up a new dog park that opened and ventured over to Smorgasburg’s newest outpost in the Tobacco Warehouse in DUMBO. An idyllic setting, beautiful weather and beyond delish/semi-unconventional brunch of pork buns and pizza? I’ll take it.

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Can’t believe we’re already back to Monday…
