The weekend has arrived and I don’t know about you guys but I am extra stoked for this one to begin. Eric’s off for a few days, my favorite Penn State peeps are making their way into town and we’ve got a nice, Brooklyn-y weekend planned (and let’s face it anytime there’s a Brooklyn weekend to be had I’m a happy camper) complete with a Cuban brunch, brewery tour and tasty dinners. Sunday, we’re headed back to the Brooklyn Flea’s Smorgasburg, which just opened for the season.

Today I bought three cook books and a spice rack. Instead of working I am dreaming of food, which isn’t that hard to do in Ireland.

A question I get asked often is how the food is in Ireland. Stories of the UK not having the best food gets over to Irish food and I think they are quite different.

I mean I’m a meat & potatoes kind of girl often, so that’s definitely a win over here. However,, there are a lot of other nice Irish dishes that I wouldn’t have known about until I moved over here. I put together a little list of things I have bought today (seriously, I’m depressing) and places to eat/visit while in Ireland. There’s also a few great food blogs I have been reading and thought I would share with you, too.

Weekend Rewind

No one ever really wants the weekend to end and this one was no exception. On Saturday, our mom came to Brooklyn to take me out for a belated-birthday dinner and play. Last year we saw (and loved) Memphis and this year, it was dinner at Nizza and Once–a very stripped-down version of Broadway show with incredible music.

Yesterday, we slept in a little and brunched at my favorite spot in Park Slope complete with fluffy omelettes, virgin cocktails (hey New York, I had NO idea you don’t serve booze till after noon on Sundays. What the heck is THAT about?), a side of smiley face pancakes straight from the kids menu and an extra large bouquet of springtime flowers. If this is what 26 looks like, I’m totally fine with it.

Thanks for another wonderful birthday, mom!

Weekend Rewind

Over the weekend, my boyfriend and I took a little family trip down to State College/Altoona Pa. to visit his family and spend time at my alma mater for the first time (embarrassingly) since I graduated college. We ate at a few of our most dearly missed places, spent some much needed time with Eric’s family–including a puppy playmate for Darwin–and reminisced about the first time we met and the dates we went on all around town.

We missed you, Dougherty family, Waffle Shop and Saint’s. We promise we won’t wait four years to come back again.

12 Days of Gifting: Day 12

I know Lucy said this last week, but it’s so true I’m saying it again: Sisters are the best people to shop for. You usually know exactly what they like and, if you live close enough to them, they’ll likely share their presents with you (or bake delicious treats for you using said presents). It’s like doubling your own gifts and sharing them with your favorite person. If that doesn’t sound like winning, I don’t know what does.

I already sent Lucy’s birthday/Christmas box to Ireland but if I were to repack it and send it all over again, I’d want to include these items:

We’re wildly lucky to have neighbors we actually like–and trust with keys to our pad–living in NYC. Here are a few reasonably priced, fun items for a super friendly super (high-five, self) or particularly good set of neighbors. In my opinion, it’s always an excellent idea to spread some holiday cheer to the people you live in close proximity to, karma being what it is.
